We’re highly jazzed to have won first (and second) place at the 2019 Cultivation Classic for best flower in the Sungrown category (Type 3, CBD).

Blue Orchid, one of the most exciting cultivars we’ve ever created, took home the gold (1st place) while our ACDC took home silver (2nd place) in the same category. And in the Hemp category, another one of our newly bred cultivars, Oregon Guava, took home bronze (3rd place). East Fork Cultivars was also a finalist for the Regenerative Cannabis Farm Award.

Our Sour Tsunami won first place in the same sungrown category (Type 3, CBD) at the 2018 Cultivation Classic.

While the Cultivation Classic is about much more than awards, and not the main reason we take part in it, we’re very happy Blue Orchid won this double-blind competition. It’s nice to get validation from our peers on what we think is one of the best plants we've ever made.

Blue Orchid is a very unique Type 3 (meaning that it is CBD dominant with less than 1% THC) cultivar with a terpene profile that’s predominant in Ocimene. Nearly all Type 3 plants are predominant in the terpene Myrcene. We’ve been working for years to find or create a Type 3 plant that’s predominant in another terpene. We’ve realized that goal with Blue Orchid, which was created by our team by crossing Blue Dynamite with Ringo's Gift, creating a ton of seeds, growing out those seeds, and then with some science and some luck, finding this Ocimene-predominant Type 3 we named Blue Orchid.

Ocimene can be found in a wide variety of fruits and plants. It’s recognized by its sweet and herbaceous aromas which help plants defend against unwanted insects. Ocimene occurs naturally in botanicals as diverse as mint, basil, orchids, and of course, cannabis. Kyle Farook (@breadnmilk) was the first to notice the orchid-like aroma of the flower from this plant which helped lead us to naming it Blue Orchid. Ocimene’s has been reported to have antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic, decongestant, and antibacterial potential.

Blue Orchid Cannabinoid Profile: 16.0% CBD | 0.7% THC (note: we grow several phenotypes of Blue Orchid — each have a unique cannabinoid profile)

Terpene Profile: 3.0% | Ocimene, Myrcene, Caryophyllene, Pinene

Parentage: Blue Dynamite x Ringo's Gift
